World Tango Star and the most sought Tango Performer of our time, Guillermina looks back at dance career of 30+ years: she has performed in ‘Forever Tango’, appeared in several films and has even choreographed for the 1998 Olympic Champions from Russia Jevgeni Platov and Oksana Grishuk. The show Forever Tango was first shown in 1994 and remains the most popular Tango show in history. Only few years back, in 2013, the show returned to Broadway with names such as Gilberto Santa Rosa, Maksim Chmerkovsky and Karina Smirnoff as guest stars, just to name a few. On Friday, September 22nd starting at 8.15pm Guillermina Quiroga and her partner Mariano Logiudice will be returning to Edgewater, New Jersey to teach a workshop and perform at one of the most exciting events for all Argentine Tango lovers – Hudson Dance Studio’s Grand Milonga!
Praised as the ‘Queen of Tango’ by New York Times for her unique dance style, Guillermina is considered the best Argentine Tango dancer around. Her style is a combination of traditional Argentine Tango steps and athletic lifts with enormously flexible leg extensions. Anyone who has watched one of her performances would have noticed her ability to perform high kicks and fancy variations of gancho (leg hook) and barrida (foot sweep). In Guillermina’s own words though, it is not so much about this set of skills in her dance and performances, but more about spirituality and the language behind the dance…in her own words: “I may dance with my body, but what I give to people is my soul”.
