ADULT PROGRAM

General Policies

Dance Shoes and Attire: 
Appropriate attire is business casual. Appropriate dance shoes are required for the dance lesson. We can recommend stores and website where you can purchase these. Please inquire within. Please remember personal hygiene because dancing is a very intimate activity that requires close proximity.

Ballroom and Changing Rooms: We ask not to change shoes or clothes in the ballroom. Please use the designated changing rooms for that. Due to limited space, we ask our students not to leave any shoes or clothes in the changing room. Hudson Dance Studio is not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged items. Food is not permitted in the ballroom. Beverages must be in an enclosed, unbreakable container. In consideration of the instructor and other student, no cell phones in the ballroom. Cell phone use is only permitted in the lobby area.

Lost and Found: Hudson Dance Studio is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items. Please check our lost and found box in the ladies’ and mens’ changing rooms. Items in the box are donated every month so make sure to collect them before that.

Refund Policy & Expiration dates: We understand that life can be unpredictable sometimes but as a small business we need to plan ahead and account for our expenses, the time of the dance instructors and other staff. Therefore, Hudson Dance Studio doesn’t provide any refunds under any circumstances. All services have an expiration date. All expiration dates are final.

Private Dance Lessons

Scheduling of Private Dance Lessons: Private Dance Lessons can be scheduled during our office hours with the available dance instructors. When scheduling a private lesson, you will be notified by email about the scheduling. This is a confirmation that your lesson has been scheduled.

Cancellation & Rescheduling: We work very hard to accommodate our students’ schedules while making sure our dance instructors have a balanced schedule as well. For all cancellations and rescheduling of private lessons, we require a 24-hour notice during our office hours which are Monday-Thursday, 12pm-10pm, Friday 2pm-10pm and Saturday 9am-4pm. Shorter summer or holiday times may apply. We ask our students to give us a call during our office hours (no emails or voicemails are accepted). This way you avoid being charged for the full amount of the lesson.

Installment Agreement: Hudson Dance Studio offers a variety of payment options to make it most convenient to our students. When choosing an installment option, your card will be saved on file and will automatically be charged after the number of prepaid dance lessons is completed. Please keep in mind that we will not notify you in person, but you will receive an email confirming the payment. When signing up for a package of private dance lessons, you agree to the full number of lessons in the package. We don’t provide any refunds under any circumstances. Private lesson packages must be completed within the designated period of time. All expiration dates are final.

Group Dance Classes

Registration Fee: A one time registration fee of $30 is applied to all memberships and is non-refundable.

Monthly Group Class Membership Monthly Payment: Signing up for a monthly membership requires a card on file that will automatically be charged on the 1st of each month. The membership can be downgraded after the first two full months by sending a notice to members@hudsondancestudio.com 15 days prior to the date of change. After the change, the new membership needs to be kept for a minimum of two full months. The membership can be upgraded at any time.

Freezing of Group Class Membership: The membership can be frozen after the first two full months for a fee of $5/month for a maximum of 3 months a year by sending an email with notice to members@hudsondancestudio.com 15 days prior to the date of change.

Group Class Membership Cancellation: The membership can be cancelled after the first two full months by sending a notice to members@hudsondancestudio.com 15 days prior to the cancellation date. If you cancel your membership and decide to re-register, the registration fee applies.

General Group Class Policy: Classes are a group activity. We request that you follow the instructor’s routine. Group classes are 60 minutes in length. Group classes must be completed within the designated period. All expiration dates are final and there are no carry-overs. Students arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be admitted into the class.

Instructors and substitute instructors: The same instructor cannot be guaranteed for the duration of the entire group class package.

Group Class Dance Levels: Hudson Dance Studio’s program offers dance classes at 4 levels: Newcomer, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Newcomer level is for students who have attended our Newcomer dance classes for 4-6 months. Bronze is for students who have been dancing for at least a year. Silver and Gold is for dancers who have several years of dance experience. In order for the student to participate in any Bronze level dance classes, they need to obtain a certification. Every 3-4 months we organize a Next-step-party where this certification can be obtained.  Students must obtain permission from instructors to advance to the next level of group classes. Please note that the class schedule is modified periodically to address students’ feedback and participation levels.

KIDS & JUNIOR DANCE PROGRAM

Registration & Policies: Registrations are accepted for the full semester only. Our dance semester runs from September until end of May/beginning of June. Our summer semester runs from June to August. Registrations are accepted at any time during the semester. It is mandatory to fill and sign our registration form as well as all pages of the semester agreement. When registered after January 15th, the students will be part of the dance recital but need to pay a separate shipping fee for the costume as well as sign up for a minimum of 12 private dance lessons.

Tuition and Payment Options: The tuition is based on 40 weeks of dance classes, a dance rehearsal and a dance recital. For the convenience we offer three payment options for the semester. The payment can be made in full, in 2 installments or 9 installments. Any installment agreement requires a card on file that will automatically be charged. If the payment doesn’t go through, there will be a fee of $35 added to the next payment. When registering later than September the tuition will be pro-rated.

Trial Drop In Class: Before committing to the entire semester, we invite our students to register for the trial drop in class. The fee for the class is $25 and expires after 4 weeks. If the student decides to register afterwards, $25 fee will be pro-rated towards the registration fee, not the tuition.

Switching Classes: It is possible to switch the class 4 weeks after the 1st class but no later than November 20. Please fill out the Class Change Request form that is available at the reception and notify the Manager.

Mandatory Dance Rehearsal, Recital & Costumes: Participation in the final dance rehearsal and dance recital are mandatory. Hudson Dance Studio staff, instructors and students work hard towards the biggest event of the year. Since there are charges that we need to take into account such as costumes, shipping costs, rental fee, performer fees, we need to charged a fee of $100 if a student drops out of the recital. When registering parents will be charged $50 non-refundable and non-transferable costume deposit fee. The costumes are priced between $65-$95 per costume per class. Please consider purchasing 2 or more costumes if your child is registered for more than 1 class per week as every class will have a separate dance choreography. When registered after January 15th, the students will be part of the dance recital but need to pay a separate shipping fee for the costume as well as sign up for a separate package of 12 private dance lessons. Parents agree to purchasing tickets for the admission to the dance recital.

Dance Uniform: Dance uniform is important for the students as well as the instructor. It allows the instructor to view the movements and body placement properly but also develops a professional attitude towards the dance activity for the dancer. Hudson Dance Studio’s uniform can be purchased at www.thedancebag.com/hudson-dance-studio by entering the password hudson. When registering before September 1st, the deadline to order uniform is August 31st. For registrations after September 1st, we ask the parent to place an order one week after the registration date at the latest.

Class placement: Our main goal is to provide your child with the best dance experience. Instructors and Hudson Dance Studio staff determine placement in the class. Our main guideline is age but it is not the most important factor. Student’s ability, dedication, loyalty and performance in class and attitude are also guidelines we go by.

Class Attendance: In order for your child to progress and improve, he/she needs to attend dance consistently. It is a sign of discipline and also sets the tone for other students. If you child has to miss the class, please notify us by calling 2012688688 or emailing juniors@hudsondancestudio.com or info@hudsondancestudio.com. If a student is missing classes too often, he/she might have to refrain in the participation in the dance recital and other performances. If arriving 15 minutes into the class, the student will have to observe the class due to safety reasons.

Class observation, drop off & parking: Parents, family members and friends are welcome to watch the classes on TV in the waiting room at any time during the semester. Due to limited space, we would like to ask a maximum of 2 people to accompany the child to the lesson. It is essential that the child is picked up on time as we are not responsible for watching the student until the parent arrives. Parking & strollers: There is 2 hour free street parking available on Central Blvd, Plateau and Anderson Avenues as well as 10 minute drop off/pick up parking behind the studio. Strollers can be left downstairs. There is no elevator on premises.

Make up classes: If the class your child is attending is offered more than once a week, you are welcome to make up up to 2 make up classes in the semester. If the class is offered only once, no make up classes are available. You can either book a group class or book a private lesson with the instructor for the discounted rate of $65 depending on instructor’s availability.

Communication with the parents/guardians: We do our best to share important information with the parents, but it is also their responsibility to be informed about studio activities, dates and deadlines. All necessary information will be send to you by email, posted on our website in the kids section and on our Facebook page called ‘Hudson Dance Studio Fort Lee’. Please make sure that emails coming from juniors@hudsondancestudio.com or info@hudsondancestudio.com are not going into your spam folder. If there are any changes to your mailing or email address as well as phone number, please notify us at your earliest convenience.

Class cancellations: To ensure safety of our students and instructors, we sometimes need to close the studio due to inclement weather or emergencies. Their will not be make up classes due to inclement weather. This information is always posted on our website under news & events in the kids section, as well as on our Facebook kids page. You can always call 2012688688 and check if the class takes place.

Discipline in the studio: Hudson Dance Studio is looking to provide safe and fun environment for our dancers and guests where we treat each other with respect and understanding. Therefore we ask all students and guests to behave in appropriate way, to be friendly with each other, not to be loud and not to disrupt other students in any way. Punctuality is also a sign of respect towards the dance instructor and therefore it is important that students arrive to their class on time.

Mindfulness-Time in each class: Hudson Dance Studio’s Kids & Junior Program strives to promote Creativity, Physical Activity and Mindfulness through dance. Each dance class will begin with 5 minutes of mindfulness time where students will sit quietly, with closed eyes. This helps the kids to focus better and concentrate on the class.

Number of students in the class: We require a minimum of 5 students in the class. Hudson Dance Studio reserves the right to cancel the class if there are 5 or less students in the class for more than 3 weeks in a row. We have a maximum of 10 kids in the class for ages 3-4, a maximum of 12 kids for ages 5-7 and a maximum of 15 for ages 8 and up.

Ballroom & Changing rooms: We ask our students to change in the designated changing room, not in the hallway or waiting area.

Waiting area: We ask our parents not to use phones when staying in the waiting area.

Assistant teacher: Hudson Dance Studio is offering an assistant teacher program. Some of the assistant teacher will be part of our daily classes, so you might see 2 teachers in the class. This is a necessary part of the training.

Videos & Pictures: At no time parents are allowed to take pictures or videos during the class or at our final dance recital. Videos & pictures are allowed during our dance rehearsal.
